Red Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation)
biohacking · easy · 1-1.5 hours/week
What is Red Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation)?
Exposure to red (630nm) and near-infrared (810-850nm) light to enhance mitochondrial ATP production, reduce oxidative stress, and promote cellular repair. Evidence supports skin rejuvenation, wound healing, acne treatment, and body contouring; dose is biphasic (more is not better).
Is there evidence for it?
EVIDENCEmoderate
How do you do Red Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation)?
- 1.Use a device with wavelengths of 630nm (red) and/or 850nm (near-infrared) — check specifications carefully
- 2.Position the device 6-12 inches from the target area for 10-15 minutes per session
- 3.Treat 3-5 times per week consistently; effects are cumulative over weeks to months
- 4.For skin: target face/body for 10-12 minutes at ~15 J/cm²; for recovery: target muscles post-workout
- 5.Be patient: visible skin results typically take 8-12 weeks; do not increase duration beyond protocol (biphasic dose response)
How long does it take?
1-1.5 hours/week.
Is it hard to start?
easy.
