How do you do KonMari Decluttering Method?
- 1.Commit to the process and visualize your ideal lifestyle: before touching a single item, journal about what kind of life you want your space to support
- 2.Declutter by category in this specific order: clothing first, then books, papers, komono (miscellaneous), and sentimental items last — this order builds your decision-making muscles progressively
- 3.For each item, hold it in your hands and ask: 'Does this spark joy?' Keep items that spark joy and thank those that don't before discarding them
- 4.Designate a home for every remaining item: everything must have a specific place it lives; use boxes and containers to create clear storage systems
- 5.Fold clothing using the KonMari fold (upright rectangles in drawers so everything is visible) and store items vertically rather than stacking to maintain organization
How long does it take?
Full process: 1-6 months (weekends); maintenance: 10 min/day.
