How do you do Dopamine Detox?

  1. 1.Audit your dopamine triggers: for 3 days, log every time you reach for a phone, open social media, snack when not hungry, or seek quick entertainment; identify your top 5 compulsive dopamine sources
  2. 2.Choose your protocol: 24-hour complete detox (beginner), 48-72 hour intensive detox (intermediate), or 2-4 week graduated elimination (recommended for lasting change)
  3. 3.During detox, eliminate: social media, video games, pornography, junk food/sugar, alcohol, and non-essential screen time; reduce to phone calls/texts only
  4. 4.Replace with low-dopamine, high-fulfillment activities: walking in nature, journaling, cooking from scratch, reading physical books, face-to-face conversations, stretching, and meditation
  5. 5.After the reset period, reintroduce activities intentionally one at a time with new boundaries: e.g., social media 30 min/day at set times, no phone first/last hour of day

How long does it take?

Full commitment for 1-4 weeks; then ongoing boundary maintenance.

Is it hard to start?

hard.
