How do you do Personal Board of Directors?

  1. 1.Audit your current support network and identify gaps: you need at least one fan (unconditional support + tough love), one sponsor (senior advocate), one critic (challenges assumptions), and one domain expert
  2. 2.Select 3-5 people from different life stages and contexts — former colleagues, mentors, peers from different industries, and people who think differently than you
  3. 3.Have a direct conversation with each inviting them to this role — explain what you're looking for, how often you'll connect, and what you'll give back
  4. 4.Schedule quarterly 1-on-1 check-ins with each board member and an annual 'state of my life' update to the full group
  5. 5.Annually evaluate: does your board still match your current challenges? Rotate members as your needs evolve

How long does it take?

1-2 hours per month across all board members.

Is it hard to start?

medium.
