What is Conscious Connected Breathing (Rebirthing Breathwork)?
A continuous breathing practice with no pauses between inhale and exhale, creating an unbroken circle of breath. Originated by Leonard Orr in the 1970s as 'rebirthing breathwork.' The connected rhythm, maintained for 30-60 minutes, can produce altered states, emotional release, physical sensations (tetany, tingling), and psychological insights. Related modalities include Transformational Breath, Clarity Breathwork, and Integrative Breathwork. Should be learned with a facilitator over a series of sessions.

How do you do Conscious Connected Breathing (Rebirthing Breathwork)?
- 1.Learn with a qualified facilitator — typically over a series of 10 private sessions of 1-2 hours each; do not attempt extended sessions alone as a beginner
- 2.Lie down comfortably on a mat; begin breathing through the nose (or mouth, depending on the tradition) with no pause between inhale and exhale — the breath becomes a continuous wheel where inhale turns into exhale turns into inhale
- 3.The inhale should be active, full, and relaxed (into both belly and chest); the exhale is a simple letting go with no effort or control — not forced, not held, just released
- 4.Maintain this connected breathing rhythm for 30-60 minutes; physical sensations (tingling, temperature changes, tetany in hands/face) and emotional releases (crying, laughter) are normal; keep breathing through them
- 5.After the active breathing phase, allow the breath to return naturally to normal for 10-15 minutes of integration; rest, observe, and discuss the experience with your facilitator
How long does it take?
60-90 minutes per session; 10-session series to learn, then periodic practice.
