Protein Pacing (4-5 Meals Protocol)

nutrition · medium · Meal planning time, no extra cooking time

What is Protein Pacing (4-5 Meals Protocol)?

Distribute protein intake evenly across 4-5 meals throughout the day (25-40g per meal). The body can only synthesize ~30-40g of protein per meal for muscle building. Eating 100g at dinner wastes most of it. Pacing optimizes muscle protein synthesis all day.

How do you do Protein Pacing (4-5 Meals Protocol)?

  1. 1.Calculate your daily protein target: 0.7-1g per pound of body weight (e.g., 150 lb person = 105-150g protein daily)
  2. 2.Divide evenly across 4-5 eating occasions: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. Each should have 25-40g protein
  3. 3.Breakfast is where most people fail: make it protein-dominant. 4 eggs = 24g, add Greek yogurt or protein shake to hit 30+
  4. 4.Each meal should contain a leucine trigger (~2.5-3g leucine) to activate muscle protein synthesis. High-leucine foods: whey protein, eggs, chicken, beef, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese
  5. 5.This is especially critical for people over 40, when anabolic resistance increases and protein pacing becomes more important than total daily protein

How long does it take?

Meal planning time, no extra cooking time.

Is it hard to start?

medium.
