The Life Audit (Annual Review)

habits · easy · 2-3 hours annually

What is The Life Audit (Annual Review)?

Once per year, review every area of your life and rate your satisfaction 1-10: health, career, finances, relationships, fun, personal growth, physical environment, family. The areas below 6 are your focus for the next year. Without an audit, you drift.

Is there evidence for it?

How do you do The Life Audit (Annual Review)?

  1. 1.Set aside 2-3 hours annually (birthday, New Year, or any meaningful date). No phone, no distractions. Favorite drink. Nice pen
  2. 2.Rate 8-10 life areas 1-10: Health, Career/Work, Finances, Romantic Relationship, Friendships/Social, Fun/Recreation, Personal Growth, Physical Environment/Home, Family, Spiritual/Purpose
  3. 3.For each area rated 6 or below: write one specific goal and one specific first action. Don't try to fix everything — pick the 2-3 lowest-scoring areas
  4. 4.For areas rated 8+: write what's working and how to protect it. High-scoring areas often get neglected because they're 'fine' — until they're not
  5. 5.Compare with last year's audit. Where did you improve? Where did you decline? The year-over-year trend is more important than any single score

How long does it take?

2-3 hours annually.

Is it hard to start?

easy.
