What is Personal Board of Advisors?

How do you do Personal Board of Advisors?

  1. 1.Identify 3-5 people whose judgment you trust in different areas: a mentor (career), a wise friend (relationships), a health-conscious friend (fitness), a financially savvy person, a creative thinker
  2. 2.Approach each: 'I'm trying to be more intentional about my life. Would you be willing to be one of my personal advisors? I'd love to check in with you once a quarter for 30 minutes to get your perspective'
  3. 3.Quarterly meetings: share what's going on in your area of their expertise. Ask: 'What do you think I'm not seeing? What would you do differently? What should I be worried about?'
  4. 4.The power is in diverse perspectives: your career mentor sees your blind spots in work, your relationship-savvy friend sees patterns in your dating, your fit friend sees your health honestly. Together they see your whole life
  5. 5.Keep the commitment light: quarterly, 30 minutes, informal (coffee or call). Most people are honored to be asked and become invested in your success. This is networking that actually matters

How long does it take?
