Morning Sunlight Exposure (Huberman Protocol)
biohacking · easy · 2-10 minutes each morning
What is Morning Sunlight Exposure (Huberman Protocol)?
Get 2-10 minutes of direct sunlight in your eyes within 30 minutes of waking. This triggers a cortisol pulse that sets your circadian clock, boosts alertness, and programs your body to produce melatonin 14-16 hours later. Huberman calls this 'the single most important thing you can do each day.'

How do you do Morning Sunlight Exposure (Huberman Protocol)?
- 1.Within 30 minutes of waking: go outside and face the sun (don't stare directly at the sun, just face its general direction). No sunglasses. Regular glasses/contacts are fine
- 2.Duration: 2-5 minutes on a sunny day, 10-15 minutes on a cloudy day, 20-30 minutes on a very overcast day. The light intensity matters — indoor light is 50-100x dimmer than outdoor light, even on cloudy days
- 3.Don't look through a window — glass blocks 50%+ of the UV light that triggers the melanopsin cells in your eyes. You MUST be outside or at least have the window open
- 4.This triggers a cortisol pulse (the healthy, wake-up kind) and starts a 14-16 hour countdown to melatonin production. Morning sunlight at 7 AM = melatonin rise at 9-11 PM. Your body literally times sleep from this signal
- 5.Combine with a short walk for double benefit. Morning walk + sunlight = cortisol reset + light exercise + vitamin D + fresh air. The most efficient health habit that exists
How long does it take?
2-10 minutes each morning.
Is it hard to start?
easy.
