Design Sprint (Jake Knapp / Google Ventures Method)

Creativity · hard · 5 full days (10 AM - 5 PM) for a team of 4-7 people

What is Design Sprint (Jake Knapp / Google Ventures Method)?

A five-day process for answering critical business questions through design, prototyping, and testing ideas with customers. Developed by Jake Knapp at Google Ventures, the sprint compresses months of debate into a single week with a structured sequence: map the problem (Monday), sketch solutions (Tuesday), decide (Wednesday), prototype (Thursday), and test with real users (Friday). The method eliminates the endless meeting cycle by forcing a testable answer within five days.

How do you do Design Sprint (Jake Knapp / Google Ventures Method)?

  1. 1.MONDAY — Map: Define the long-term goal, list sprint questions, create a map of the user journey, and choose a specific target area to focus on
  2. 2.TUESDAY — Sketch: Each team member individually sketches detailed solutions (no groupthink) using a structured 4-step sketching process; works best with 4-7 people
  3. 3.WEDNESDAY — Decide: Present all sketches, vote on the strongest ideas using dot voting, and create a storyboard for the prototype
  4. 4.THURSDAY — Prototype: Build a realistic facade of the solution using Figma, Keynote, or paper prototyping — it only needs to look real for a 1-hour test, not actually work
  5. 5.FRIDAY — Test: Run 5 one-on-one user tests, observe patterns, and make a go/no-go decision based on real customer feedback

How long does it take?

5 full days (10 AM - 5 PM) for a team of 4-7 people.

Is it hard to start?

hard.
