Vagus Nerve Stimulation (Natural)

holistic · easy · 5-10 min/day

What is Vagus Nerve Stimulation (Natural)?

Non-invasive techniques to activate the vagus nerve — the body's primary parasympathetic highway — to shift from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest, reducing heart rate, inflammation, and anxiety.

How do you do Vagus Nerve Stimulation (Natural)?

  1. 1.Cold exposure: splash ice-cold water on your face for 30 seconds or hold an ice pack to your neck/chest; this triggers the mammalian dive reflex and immediately activates vagal tone
  2. 2.Extended exhale breathing: breathe in for 4 counts, out for 8 counts; the longer exhale directly stimulates the vagus nerve through the diaphragm; practice for 5 minutes during stress
  3. 3.Humming, chanting, or gargling: the vagus nerve innervates the vocal cords; humming 'Om' for 2 minutes or gargling water vigorously for 30 seconds stimulates the vagal pathway
  4. 4.Practice the physiological sigh: double inhale through the nose (quick-quick) followed by a long exhale through the mouth; this is the fastest known way to activate the parasympathetic system in a single breath cycle
  5. 5.Cold shower finishing: end your shower with 30-60 seconds of cold water; regular practice improves vagal tone over time, making your nervous system more resilient to stress

How long does it take?

5-10 min/day.

Is it hard to start?

easy.
