What is FIRE Lifestyle Design?

The life-architecture component of Financial Independence, Retire Early — not just the math but the deliberate design of a lifestyle that serves your values. Focuses on conscious spending, time reclamation, and building a life you don't need to retire from.

How do you do FIRE Lifestyle Design?

  1. 1.Calculate your 'enough number': define exactly what annual spending supports your ideal lifestyle, then determine the investment portfolio needed (typically 25x annual expenses)
  2. 2.Conduct a joy-per-dollar audit: track spending for 30 days and rate each purchase 1-10 for life satisfaction added — ruthlessly cut anything below 7
  3. 3.Design your post-FI life NOW: don't wait until retirement to build hobbies, relationships, health routines, and purpose — these take years to develop
  4. 4.Optimize your life structure for time over money: consider geographic arbitrage, remote work, downsizing, or restructuring work arrangements to reclaim hours
  5. 5.Build income streams aligned with what you'd do for free — the goal isn't to stop working forever but to make work optional

How long does it take?

2-3 hours monthly for financial tracking and life design review.

Is it hard to start?

hard.
