How do you do Rucking (Weighted Walking)?
- 1.Start with an unweighted backpack for 1-2 weeks of regular 30-minute walks to establish baseline fitness and proper walking form.
- 2.Add weight gradually: begin with 10% of your bodyweight (or 10-15 lbs). Place the weight high in the pack, close to your shoulder blades, to prevent swaying and lower back strain.
- 3.Walk at a brisk pace (15-17 min/mile) for 30-45 minutes. Maintain upright posture with engaged core. Avoid leaning forward excessively.
- 4.Progress by adding 5 lbs every 2-3 weeks OR increasing distance/duration by 10-15% per week. Advanced ruckers carry 30-50 lbs for 60+ minutes.
- 5.Ruck 2-3 times per week with at least one rest day between sessions. Mix terrain (hills, trails, stairs) for variety and increased challenge.
How long does it take?
30-60 minutes, 2-3x/week.
Is it hard to start?
easy.
