What is Atomic Habits Identity-Based Change?

Instead of setting goals (outcome-based), change your identity (identity-based). Don't say 'I want to run a marathon' — say 'I am a runner.' Every action becomes a vote for the type of person you want to become.

Is there evidence for it?

EVIDENCEstrong

How do you do Atomic Habits Identity-Based Change?

  1. 1.Decide the type of person you want to be (not the outcome you want). 'I am someone who moves every day' not 'I want to lose 20 pounds'
  2. 2.Ask: 'What would a [healthy person / writer / athlete / organized person] do right now?' and do that thing
  3. 3.Every time you act in alignment with your desired identity, say 'That's like me' or 'I'm the type of person who...'
  4. 4.When you slip, don't say 'I failed.' Say 'That's not like me' and get back on track. Never miss twice in a row
  5. 5.Track your identity votes: each day you exercise, mark an X. The chain of X's becomes evidence that you ARE that person

How long does it take?
