What is Alcohol Reassessment (This Naked Mind)?
Annie Grace's approach to changing your relationship with alcohol by examining and dismantling unconscious beliefs about drinking. Unlike willpower-based approaches, This Naked Mind works by changing how you THINK about alcohol so that the desire to drink naturally fades. The 30-day Alcohol Experiment provides a structured framework for the cognitive shift.

How do you do Alcohol Reassessment (This Naked Mind)?
- 1.Begin with honest self-assessment: track every drink for 14 days — quantity, time, emotional trigger, social context, and how you felt 2 hours after. Calculate weekly units. Most people who consider themselves 'moderate' drinkers are surprised by their actual consumption when measured
- 2.Challenge your unconscious beliefs about alcohol by examining each one: 'Alcohol helps me relax' (it actually increases cortisol and anxiety), 'I'm more fun when drinking' (you're lowering your inhibitions, not adding personality), 'I can't socialize without it' (this is social anxiety masked by chemical coping). Write out your beliefs and research the neuroscience that contradicts each one
- 3.Start the 30-day Alcohol Experiment: commit to zero alcohol for 30 days, not through white-knuckling but as a curiosity-driven experiment. Each day, complete a reflection prompt about your relationship with alcohol. Note how your sleep, energy, anxiety, skin, weight, and social interactions change without alcohol
- 4.Develop replacement rituals for high-risk moments: Friday evening wind-down (sparkling water with bitters in a nice glass, take a bath, go for a walk), social drinking situations (arrive with a non-alcoholic drink in hand, offer to be designated driver, practice ordering first with confidence), stress relief (exercise, cold shower, breathing exercises, calling a friend)
- 5.At day 30, make an intentional decision: some people discover they want to stop entirely (the desire genuinely fades when beliefs change), others choose mindful moderation with specific rules (max 2 drinks, never alone, never as emotional coping, minimum 4 alcohol-free days per week). The key: the choice should feel free, not deprived
