What is Urge Surfing (Addiction & Craving Management)?
When a craving hits (food, cigarette, phone, alcohol, shopping), don't fight it — SURF it. Observe the urge like a wave: it rises, peaks, and falls in 15-20 minutes. Every urge you successfully surf weakens the next one. This is the core mindfulness technique for breaking any addiction.

How do you do Urge Surfing (Addiction & Craving Management)?
- 1.When a craving hits: pause. Don't act on it AND don't try to suppress it. Just notice it. 'I'm having an urge to check my phone right now'
- 2.Get curious: where do you feel it in your body? Chest tightness? Stomach pull? Restless hands? Rate its intensity 1-10. Watch it like a scientist observing a wave
- 3.Breathe slowly through it. Say to yourself: 'This is a wave. It will peak and pass. I don't have to act on it. I can just watch.' Keep rating the intensity every 60 seconds
- 4.Watch it peak (usually 5-10 minutes) and then decline. By minute 15-20, the urge drops to 2-3 out of 10 or disappears. You just proved you can survive a craving without giving in
- 5.Every successful surf rewires your brain: the craving pathway weakens when it's not reinforced with action. After 20-30 successful surfs, the urges become noticeably weaker and less frequent
How long does it take?
15-20 minutes per craving episode.
