Strategic Networking (Non-Sleazy)

What is Strategic Networking (Non-Sleazy)?

Adam Grant's research: 'givers' who help others without expecting returns build the most powerful networks. Stop collecting business cards. Start being genuinely helpful. The best networkers don't network — they contribute.

How do you do Strategic Networking (Non-Sleazy)?

  1. 1.Lead with giving: when you meet someone interesting, ask 'How can I help you?' not 'What can you do for me?' Introduce people, share resources, offer your skills
  2. 2.Reach out to 2 people per week: one you know (maintain existing relationships) and one you don't (expand your network). Even a simple 'I saw your work on X and loved it' opens doors
  3. 3.Create a 'giving bank': keep a list of people's needs, goals, and interests. When you see an article, job posting, or contact that matches — forward it. This costs you 2 minutes but creates massive goodwill
  4. 4.Follow up is everything: after meeting someone, send a specific follow-up within 24 hours. Not 'Great to meet you' but 'Loved your insight about X. Here's that article I mentioned'
  5. 5.Build in public: share your work, lessons, and journey online. The best networking happens when people come to YOU because they've seen your contributions

How long does it take?

30 minutes per week.

Is it hard to start?

medium.
