How do you do Public Speaking Anxiety Protocol?

  1. 1.Reframe anxiety as excitement: before speaking, say 'I am excited' (not 'I am calm'). Harvard research shows this works better than trying to calm down — the physiology of excitement and anxiety is identical
  2. 2.Body preparation: 2 minutes before speaking, do power poses (hands on hips, expand your body). Take 5 physiological sighs (double inhale + long exhale). Shake out your hands vigorously
  3. 3.Vocal warm-up: hum for 1 minute, then say 'Red leather yellow leather' 10 times. This relaxes your vocal cords and prevents the shaky voice
  4. 4.During the talk: find 3-4 friendly faces in the audience and rotate eye contact between them. Speak to individuals, not 'the crowd'. Pause when nervous — silence feels longer to you than the audience
  5. 5.Desensitization ladder: start with speaking up in a meeting, then present to 3 people, then 10, then a room, then film yourself, then Toastmasters. Each step reduces the fear for the next
