Deliberate Heat Exposure (Sauna Protocol)

biohacking · easy · 20-30 minutes per session, 2-4x per week

What is Deliberate Heat Exposure (Sauna Protocol)?

Regular sauna use (4-7x per week, 20 min at 174°F+) reduces all-cause mortality by 40% and cardiovascular mortality by 50%. Triggers heat shock proteins, growth hormone release, and mimics cardiovascular exercise while you sit still.

How do you do Deliberate Heat Exposure (Sauna Protocol)?

  1. 1.Target: 20 minutes at 174-210°F (80-100°C), dry or infrared sauna both work
  2. 2.Frequency: 2-4x per week minimum for health benefits. Finnish studies showing 40% mortality reduction used 4-7x per week
  3. 3.Hydrate before AND after: drink 16oz water with electrolytes pre-sauna and 16-24oz after. You'll sweat 1-2 pounds of water
  4. 4.Post-sauna cooling: cool shower or cold plunge if available. The hot-cold contrast maximizes growth hormone release (up to 16x baseline)
  5. 5.Best timing: evening sauna improves sleep quality (the subsequent body temperature drop signals your brain it's bedtime). Avoid sauna right before workouts — the dehydration impairs performance

How long does it take?

20-30 minutes per session, 2-4x per week.

Is it hard to start?

easy.
