Wim Hof Breathing Technique

biohacking · medium · 15-20 min per session, 3-5x/week

What is Wim Hof Breathing Technique?

Controlled hyperventilation followed by breath retention — 30-40 deep breaths followed by exhale-and-hold for as long as possible, repeated 3-4 rounds. Activates the sympathetic nervous system and has shown some effects on immune response, but evidence quality is low.

Is there evidence for it?

How do you do Wim Hof Breathing Technique?

  1. 1.Sit or lie down in a safe position (NEVER in water, driving, or standing due to fainting risk)
  2. 2.Take 30-40 deep, powerful breaths: fully in through the nose, passively out through the mouth
  3. 3.After the last exhale, hold your breath with empty lungs as long as comfortable (typically 1-3 minutes)
  4. 4.Inhale deeply, hold for 15 seconds, then release. This completes one round
  5. 5.Repeat for 3-4 rounds total; practice on an empty stomach, ideally in the morning

How long does it take?

15-20 min per session, 3-5x/week.

Is it hard to start?

medium.
