What is Oral Microbiome Optimization?
A daily oral care protocol targeting the oral microbiome — the second most diverse microbial community in the body. Combines tongue scraping, oil pulling, and hydroxyapatite toothpaste to reduce pathogenic bacteria while preserving beneficial flora and remineralizing enamel.

How do you do Oral Microbiome Optimization?
- 1.Morning tongue scraping: use a stainless steel or copper tongue scraper. Extend your tongue and scrape from back to front 5-10 times, rinsing the scraper between passes. This removes overnight bacterial buildup and debris.
- 2.Oil pulling: swish 1 tablespoon of organic coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes (start with 5 minutes and build up). Do this while showering or getting ready. Spit into trash (not sink). This dislodges harmful bacteria and reduces biofilm.
- 3.Brush with nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste (instead of or in addition to fluoride): this biomimetic compound deposits calcium and phosphate ions into enamel, actively remineralizing teeth. Brush for 2 minutes with a soft-bristle brush.
- 4.Floss daily with expandable floss, then rinse with xylitol-based mouthwash or plain water. Avoid alcohol-based mouthwashes that destroy both good and bad bacteria indiscriminately.
- 5.Support the oral microbiome through diet: reduce sugar (feeds pathogenic bacteria), eat crunchy vegetables (natural cleaning), consume probiotic foods. Consider oral probiotic lozenges containing S. salivarius K12 or M18 strains.
How long does it take?
15-20 minutes daily (including oil pulling).
Is it hard to start?
easy.
