What is Autophagy Activation Protocol (Fasting + Exercise)?
A strategic combination of time-restricted eating and exercise timing to maximize cellular autophagy — the body's self-cleaning process that removes damaged proteins and organelles. Targets the AMPK/mTOR pathway through dual nutrient deprivation and energy sensing.

How do you do Autophagy Activation Protocol (Fasting + Exercise)?
- 1.Establish a 16:8 time-restricted eating pattern: eat within an 8-hour window (e.g., 12pm-8pm). Autophagy begins to increase meaningfully after 12-16 hours of fasting and continues rising through 24-48 hours.
- 2.Time exercise toward the end of your fasting window (e.g., 10-11am if you break fast at noon). This maximizes AMPK activation when nutrient depletion and mTOR inhibition are already at their peak.
- 3.Include both modalities: HIIT or prolonged endurance exercise rapidly depletes cellular energy stores and maximizes AMPK activation. Resistance training stimulates localized autophagy within trained muscle fibers.
- 4.After exercise, break your fast with protein (25-40g) to shift from autophagy (breakdown) to mTOR-driven muscle protein synthesis (building). This cyclical activation is more effective than chronic suppression of either pathway.
- 5.Consider periodic extended fasts (24-36 hours) once monthly for deeper autophagy activation. Keep activity light during extended fasts (walking, yoga). Do NOT do heavy training in a deeply fasted state — this is counterproductive for muscle preservation.
