What is Cognitive Load Management (Sweller Protocol)?
Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller 1988) identifies three types of mental load: intrinsic (complexity of the material itself), extraneous (unnecessary difficulty created by poor design or environment), and germane (productive mental effort that builds schemas). Working memory can hold only 4 +/- 1 chunks at a time (Cowan 2001).
