Relationship Audit (Annual Review)

relationships · medium · 2-3 hours annually + quarterly 30-min check-ins

What is Relationship Audit (Annual Review)?

An annual structured reflection on the state of your relationship, inspired by business annual reviews and adapted by couples therapists. Partners independently complete a relationship inventory covering key domains (intimacy, communication, fun, growth, conflict, dreams) then compare notes in a facilitated conversation. Research shows couples who regularly assess their relationship catch small issues before they become crises.

How do you do Relationship Audit (Annual Review)?

  1. 1.Schedule a 2-3 hour block annually (anniversary or New Year) in a relaxed, neutral setting
  2. 2.Each partner independently rates these domains 1-10: emotional intimacy, physical intimacy, communication, fun/adventure, shared goals, individual growth, conflict resolution
  3. 3.Share your ratings — focus on understanding gaps between your scores rather than debating who's right
  4. 4.For each domain scored below 7, brainstorm one specific action for the coming year
  5. 5.Write a one-page 'Relationship State of the Union' together and revisit it quarterly

How long does it take?

2-3 hours annually + quarterly 30-min check-ins.

Is it hard to start?
