How do you do Deep Work?

  1. 1.Choose a deep work philosophy: monastic (eliminate all shallow work), bimodal (alternate deep/shallow days), rhythmic (daily deep work blocks), or journalistic (fit deep work wherever possible)
  2. 2.Schedule 1-4 hour deep work blocks daily with zero interruptions — no phone, email, or social media
  3. 3.Create a shutdown ritual at end of workday to completely disconnect from work thoughts
  4. 4.Track your deep work hours weekly and aim to increase them gradually
  5. 5.Embrace boredom — resist the urge to fill every idle moment with stimulation to strengthen focus muscles
