How do you do Visualization & Mental Rehearsal?
- 1.Choose a specific upcoming performance (presentation, difficult conversation, athletic event) and create a detailed mental movie from your first-person perspective
- 2.Engage all senses: see the environment in vivid color, feel your body moving confidently, hear the sounds of the room, notice temperature on your skin — the more sensory detail, the more effective
- 3.Include the process, not just the outcome: visualize yourself preparing, starting, handling a challenge mid-performance, adjusting, and finishing strong — not just the trophy moment
- 4.Practice for 5-10 minutes daily, ideally in the morning or just before sleep when the brain is most suggestible; find a quiet space, close your eyes, and run through 2-3 complete mental rehearsals
- 5.Add a coping visualization: specifically rehearse what you'll do when something goes wrong (mistake, unexpected question, equipment failure) and see yourself recovering smoothly
How long does it take?
5-10 min/day.
Is it hard to start?
easy.
