What is Seed Oil Reduction Protocol?
A dietary shift to reduce consumption of highly processed industrial seed oils (soybean, canola, sunflower, corn, cottonseed) high in omega-6 linoleic acid, while increasing omega-3 intake to restore a healthier omega-6/omega-3 ratio closer to the ancestral 4:1 or lower.

How do you do Seed Oil Reduction Protocol?
- 1.Audit your current intake: check labels on packaged foods, salad dressings, sauces, and restaurant meals. Most processed foods contain soybean, canola, or sunflower oil. Identify your primary sources.
- 2.Replace cooking oils: switch to extra virgin olive oil (low-heat cooking, dressings), avocado oil (high-heat cooking), coconut oil (medium-heat), ghee or butter (all-purpose). These are minimally processed and have favorable fatty acid profiles.
- 3.Eliminate or reduce the biggest sources: fast food, restaurant fried foods, packaged snacks, commercial salad dressings, margarine, and most processed baked goods. Cook more at home where you control the oil.
- 4.Increase omega-3 intake to improve the ratio: eat fatty fish 2-3x/week (salmon, sardines, mackerel), add ground flaxseed or chia seeds daily, consider an omega-3 supplement (2-3g EPA+DHA/day).
- 5.Note the scientific nuance: mainstream nutrition research does not support eliminating seed oils entirely, and replacing saturated fat with PUFAs reduces CVD risk. The stronger argument is reducing ultra-processed food intake (which happens to contain most seed oils) rather than demonizing the oils themselves.
How long does it take?
Ongoing dietary habit change.
