Sauna Protocol (Deliberate Heat Exposure)
biohacking · easy · 15-20 minutes per session, 2-4x per week
What is Sauna Protocol (Deliberate Heat Exposure)?
Use a sauna 2-4 times per week at 80-100°C for 15-20 minutes per session. Finnish research on 2,300 men over 20 years: those who sauna'd 4-7x/week had 40% lower all-cause mortality. Heat stress triggers heat shock proteins, growth hormone spikes (up to 16x), cardiovascular conditioning, and deep relaxation.

How do you do Sauna Protocol (Deliberate Heat Exposure)?
- 1.Target: 80-100°C (176-212°F) for 15-20 minutes per session. If you're new, start with 10 minutes at lower temperature and build up over 2 weeks
- 2.Frequency: minimum 2x/week for health benefits. 4x/week for the longevity data. Can be done after workouts (aids recovery) or as a standalone session
- 3.Hydration: drink 16-32 oz of water with electrolytes before and after. You'll lose 0.5-1 lb of water per session through sweat
- 4.For growth hormone: the biggest spike comes from doing 2-3 rounds of 15-20 minutes with 5-minute cool-down breaks between rounds. One study showed a 16x increase in GH
- 5.No sauna access? A hot bath at 40°C (104°F) for 20 minutes provides some of the same cardiovascular and relaxation benefits, though at lower intensity. Japanese onsen research supports hot bathing for longevity
How long does it take?
15-20 minutes per session, 2-4x per week.
Is it hard to start?
