How do you do Active Listening Practice?
- 1.In your next conversation, put away your phone and make eye contact — commit to zero distractions
- 2.Listen to understand, not to respond — pause 2-3 seconds after the other person finishes before speaking
- 3.Reflect back what you heard: 'So what you're saying is...' or 'It sounds like you feel...'
- 4.Ask open-ended follow-up questions: 'What was that like?' or 'How did that make you feel?'
- 5.Practice with one conversation per day where you consciously focus only on listening for the full duration
