What is Parkour Basics?
The art of moving through environments efficiently using running, jumping, climbing, and vaulting. Founded by David Belle and inspired by military obstacle course training (methode naturelle). Core skills: safety roll (absorbing impact), precision jump (landing accurately on small surfaces), and vaults (propelling over obstacles using hands). Emphasizes training in controlled environments before outdoor application. Develops spatial awareness, courage, and functional athleticism.

How do you do Parkour Basics?
- 1.Learn the safety roll first: on soft ground (grass or mats), from a crouched position, tuck head to chest and roll diagonally over one shoulder (right shoulder to left hip), keeping arms close; practice 20 reps until automatic
- 2.Practice precision jumps: mark two parallel lines 3 feet apart on flat ground, jump from one to the other landing with both feet simultaneously, absorbing impact through bent knees; gradually increase distance to 5-6 feet
- 3.Master the safety vault: approach a waist-height wall or rail at a jog, place one hand on the obstacle, swing same-side leg over while the other leg follows; always keep one hand on the obstacle for control; practice 10 reps each side
- 4.Develop the speed vault and lazy vault: increase approach speed, practice smooth transitions where you barely slow down while clearing the obstacle; link vault + 3 strides + precision jump into short sequences
- 5.Build a training circuit with 4-5 obstacles: jog to wall -> safety vault -> precision jump to low wall -> balance walk across -> drop with safety roll; repeat circuit 5-10 times with focus on smooth, controlled movement
How long does it take?
45-60 minutes, 2-3 times per week.
